Com o fim de Páginas da Vida, a trama de Manoel Carlos abre passagem para o folhetim de Gilberto Braga e Ricardo Linhares, Paraíso Tropical, que vai invadir os lares a partir desta segunda-feira (5). O cenário é pra lá de convidativo: paisagens paradisíacas no Nordeste e o convidativo bairro de Copacabana, na Zona Sul do Rio. A trama – dirigida por Dennis Carvalho – fala sobre o Brasil contemporâneo e a cobiça. Urbana e atual, Paraíso Tropical é uma história de amor. Seja no suntuoso resort de Antenor ou no bordel comandado por Amélia (Susana Vieira). Copacabana é o pano de fundo da trama. O bairro-símbolo do Rio de Janeiro, famoso também por suas contradições, foi o local escolhido pelo empresário Antenor (Tony Ramos) para sediar o Grupo Cavalcanti, um dos mais fortes do país e do qual é o fundador e presidente. No bairro está também o Edifício Copamar, um prédio de dois blocos que reúne várias famílias de classe média e, principalmente, todo tipo de história. Paraíso Tropical tem de tudo para resgatar o folhetim clássico. Retrata a disputa do bem e o mal, através do vilão, Olavo (Wagner Moura) e do mocinho, Daniel (Fábio Assunção) e de duas irmãs gêmeas - uma boa e outra má - vividas por Alessandra Negrini. Como ingrediente adicional, apresenta ainda um casal de homossexuais bem resolvido, vivido por Carlos Casagrande e Sérgio Abreu. E, para movimentar o folhetim, prostitutas no centro da trama. Numa tentativa de salvar os negócios de Antenor, Daniel chega ao Rio de Janeiro e vai direto para o Grupo Cavalcanti - cuja sede ocupa dois andares do mais luxuoso hotel da rede, na praia de Copacabana. Chegando lá, se depara com uma confusão envolvendo funcionários, inquietos sobre a possibilidade de uma demissão em massa. Daniel ainda é surpreendido por um protesto de “defensores da moral” diante do hotel, com a presença da imprensa. Os manifestantes acusam o Grupo Cavalcanti de promover o turismo sexual em seus anúncios. O empresário é escolhido por Antenor para acertar os detalhes finais das negociações que estão sendo feitas para a compra de um hotel em Marapuã, uma simpática cidadezinha no litoral da Bahia. De dia, o movimento nas praias paradisíacas e nas piscinas dos resorts de Marapuã é intenso, porém familiar. À noite, contudo, os restaurantes e bares ficam lotados de adultos procurando diversão mais apimentada. O bordel de Amélia (Suzana Vieira) é o local preferido da maioria dos homens da cidade. Mas é ameaçado de fechar as portas. Amélia procura Daneil, para impedir o fechamento de seu estabelecimento. O executivo, sem saber que a dona do bordel a cria Paula (Alessandra Negrini), que trabalha como gerente de uma pousada, se apaixona por ela durante um descanso na praia. A novela traz de volta para a tevê Renée de Vielmond, como Ana Luísa, e Daisy Lúcidi (Iracema). Ambição, romances do presente e do passado, golpes, sensualidade e muita emoção são os ingredientes básicos de Paraíso Tropical.
